The idea proposed in this study is to analyze the interregional and intra-regional migration dynamics of return in Brazil in the 1986/1991, 1995/2000 and 2005/2010 five-year periods, identifying trends and inflections in the recent migratory scenario. The microdata of the 1991, 2000 and 2010 Demographic Census samples are used. The main results show that the Northeast excels in attracting returnees and the Southeast by expelling negative migratory balances, while the Northeast reduces their output and maintains the positive return balance. As for the southern region, this dynamic is similar to the Northeast, and the other regions (Central West and North) pointed to similar movements, appearing as receiving areas. Thus, there is a tendency of growth of the short-distance migratory dynamics vis-a-vis the long distance.
