Effects of mammalian and avian gonadotropins on the testes of hypophysectomized chicks were investigated. The action of chicken gonadotropins on the testis was similar to that of mammalian gonadotropins. Sheep and chicken FSH increased the testicular weight and the diameter of the seminiferous tubules whereas LH of both species caused a proliferation of the interstitial cells. Sheep FSH was the most effective in stimulating the seminiferous tubules among the gonadotropins used in this study.
