The nickel(II) complex [Ni(DMF)6](BPh4)2 [DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide] was accidentally formed from [Ni(bmoen)2-(DMF)](BPh4)2·DMF [bmoen = bis(2-methoxyethyl)amine] by its decomposition during a recrystallization procedure, which was from a mixture of DMF and 2-propanol (1:1). The obtained crystal was characterized by single-crystal X-ray analysis. The compound crystallizes in the orthorhombic spaces group Pca21 and Z = 4 with cell parameters a = 30.2714(5)A, b = 9.2644(1)A, c = 22.0462(4)A, V = 6182.8(2)A3. Six DMF molecules coordinate to a nickel(II) center, and the complex cation can be approximately classified into an S6 point group; its coordination geometry is trigonally compressed.
