The title compound, ethyl 6,6′-(1,2-ethanediyl)-4,4′-bis(trifluoromethyl)salicylate, crystallized in the triclinic sytem, space group P1, with cell constants a = 4.8296(3)A, b = 10.1649(5)A, c = 11.4127(6)A, α = 108.086(2)°, β = 99.641(2)°, γ = 95.665(5)°, V = 518.24(5)A3 and Z = 1. The molecule is almost planar, and possesses a centre of inversion. Intramolecular hydrogen bonds were found between the phenolic OH group and the carboxylic oxygen with a distance of 251.32(19) pm between the oxygen atoms.
