Variable star photometry is often promoted as a key research area where non-professionals can travel across the professional divide and provide meaningful contributions to scientific research. The divide is not often traversed as much as it could. On the one side, non-professionals can get lost and confused in the divide – usually being bogged down in data reduction (as compared to analysis) – when trying to make multiple decisions on parameters they are not expert in. On the opposite side, professionals can have, an often justified, suspicion of the quality of photometric results from non-experts. astrosource seeks to bridge this divide by providing a homogenous automated toolkit to reduce and calibrate astronomical measurements. The tool also facilitates scientific outreach use of automated robotic telescopes by providing necessary capacity to fully automate the process from image request through to image reduction and resulting display.
