The crystal faces of the rhombohedral particles were assigned to the {101 1} faces, where the surface density of the (Si–O)8 openings of micropores is the highest. Morphology changes from left to right are explained by the enhancement of twinning and suppression of growth along the [0001] direction. Twinning is considered to be the main reason for the reduction of accessible micropore volume.
