(1) SiとSiO2との混合物にMg及び微量のCuを加え, N2気流中で1380-1420℃に加熱することにより成形体の表層部にSi2ON2針状結晶が成長した.(2) Si2ON2針状結晶が成長するさいのMg, Cuの役割について検討を行った. その結果, Mg-Cu-Siよりなる液相はSiとSiO2との反応を促進し, 発生したSiO (g) はN2とともに液滴に溶け込むVLS機構によって針状結晶を効果的に成長させる役割をはたすことが認められた.(3) 針状結晶の好適な成長条件は次のとおりである. Si/SiO2/Mg/Cuモル比=2.2/1.0/0.3/0.003 初期熱処理: 〓650℃ (30min)→650℃ (30min) Si粒度: 10-30μm 反応温度: 1420℃ 反応時間: 3h 窒素流量: 50ml/min(4) 針状結晶は長さ5-6mm, 太さ1-3μmのものを得た.
