The article contains information about how often and why acute intestinal infections in children can have adverse outcomes, describes their clinical picture and the pathogenetic basis of development. The significance of an impaired microbiota in the development of post-infectious functional disorders of the gastrointestinal tract in childhood is emphasized. Data are presented on the beneficial properties of functional food products containing probiotic strains of Bifidobacterium animalis subspecies lactis BB-12 and Lactobacillus acidophilus LA-5, the use of which makes it possible to correct the imbalance in the gut microbiota and to manage intestinal dysfunction, thus ensuring rehabilitation of patients.
