Seguindo o dinamismo da volta as fontes, a teologia sacramental redescobriu na Patristica uma forma de abordar os sacramentos, distinta da maneira a que o II Milenio do cristianismo nos tinha habituado. Enquanto a Escolastica, responsavel pela sistematizacao da teologia sacramental, havia ensinado a aborda-los dedutivamente, a Patristica refletiu sobre os sacramentos sem preocupacao sistematica, mas a partir da celebracao vivida em comunidade, indutivamente.
