Women are the instrument for changing the scenario of the society. In an agrarian country like India, women play a very important role in the development of agriculture and contribute three fourth of the total labour required. Agriculture is the back bone of our national economy. Further as the participation of women is not limited to agricultural activities only but they are contributing towards livestock management, fisheries, poultry etc. The study is an in depth analysis of participation of women in various agricultural activities and a detailed analysis of problems and constraints faced by different categories of farm women has been done. Women were participating mostly in the time consuming, drudgery involved and unskilled tasks like transplanting, harvesting, and inter culture operation. The state department of agriculture and KVK are required to make their transfer of technology mechanism more efficient and prompt. Policy planners are required to incorporate women’s concern in policies related to agriculture. Thus, this study is pioneer in Rajasthan and indicates the dominant role played by women in agriculture. It has established the need for further efforts in estimating their economic contribution in national income. Keeping all these facts in mind the present investigation entitled, “Role of Rural Women in Agricultural Activities in Jaipur District of Rajasthan.” has been undertaken with following specific objectives: * Post Graduate student, Department of Extension Education, S.K.N. college of Agriculture, Jobner, Jaipur (Raj.) ** Professor & Director, Directorate of Extension Education, S.K.N. Agriculture University, Jobner, Jaipur (Raj.) 1. To study the socio-economic profile of rural women. 2. To determine the actual role of rural women in agricultural activities. 3. To analyze the relationship between socio-economic traits of rural women with their participation in agricultural activities. 4. To find out the constraints faced by rural women during agricultural operations. 5. To give suggestions for improving agricultural activities by the rural women. The present study was conducted in Jaipur region of Rajasthan. Out of five districts in Jaipur region, Jaipur district was selected. From selected district, two panchayat samities (Dudu and Jalsu) were selected randomly by using simple random sampling. From the selected two panchayat samities five villages from each panchayat samiti were selected by using simple random sampling. Similarly from 10 selected villages 120 respondents were selected by proportionate random sampling technique. The investigator collected data by using personal interview method and the data collected were analyzed which led to the following salient findings: 1. Majority of the rural women belonged to middle age group, low level of education, possessing 1-2 hectare land, had middle income group. 2. It was found that the majority of rural women were from medium level of participation in agricultural activities. While rural women were rarely reported under the category of low level of participation in agricultural activities. 3. It was found that the majority of rural women were from medium level of participation in pre sowing and sowing agricultural activities. 4. It was found that the majority of rural women were from medium level of participation in intercultural activities, whereas rural women had rarely participated in intercultural activities. 5. It was found that the majority of rural women were from medium level of participation in post harvest agricultural activities, whereas they had rarely participated in post harvest agricultural activities. 6. It was found that the majority of rural women were from medium level of participation in livestock activities. 7. It was also found that the majority of rural women were from medium level of participation in farm related decision making. whereas rarely rural women were participation in farm related decision making and in livestock related decision making 8. The most important constraint faced by rural women was “Illiteracy among the rural women” and the least important constraint faced by rural women was “Low quality of nutrition”. 9. The most important suggestion given by rural women was “Adult Education Programmes for illiterate rural women” be organised and the least important suggestion given by rural women for conducting “Exposure visit”. 10. The participation of rural women in agricultural activities was found positively and significantly associated with the education, marital status, farming experience, annual income, land holding and extension participation. 11.
