Background: Recurrentaphthousstomatitis(RAS)arepainfuloralulcerationsthatrecurfromdaystomonthsorevenyears.It representsthemostcommonlesionoftheoralmucosawithprevalencerangingfrom15%to30%.Althoughtheclinicalcharacteristics ofRASarewelldefined,thepreciseetiopathogenesisofRASremainsunclear.SincetheetiologyofRASremainsunknown,thereis nodefinitivetreatment.RASrespondsquitewelltotheuseoftopicalorsystemicantiinflammatorydrugs,particularlycorticosteroids. Purpose: TheobjectiveofthispaperistodiscussthetreatmentofRASwithsecondaryinfection.Case: Thispaperreportedacaseof 22-year-oldmanwithmultipleoralulcersthatdidnothealfor7months.Case Management: TheseulcerswerediagnosedasRAS majorwithsecondaryinfectionthatcausedbynormaloralflora(aerobicandanaerobicbacteria)andtreatedwithmetronidazole (topicalandoral)andciprofloxacin(oral).Theselesionshealedin3weekswithscars.Conclusion: Largeulcerwithoutsignsof malignancythatcontaminatedwithnormaloralflorawilldelayedinhealing,butwithrationaltreatmentRASmayorwithsecondary infectionhasgoodprognosis.
