Maize (Zea mays L.; 2n =20) is an important cereal crop of the world, belonging to the tribe Maydeae of the grass family Poaceae. It has become a leading agricultural crop and is used for food, feed, fuel and fiber in many parts of the world, in temperate, tropical and sub-tropical regions.
