Die Dissertation untersucht die spätmittelalterliche Geschichte von Tabriz, einer Stadt im Nordwesten Irans. Sie zeichnet den Prozess nach, in dem Tabriz zwischen dem späten 6./12. und dem frühen 10./16. Jahrhundert eine besondere Bedeutung für persisch geprägte politische Kultur erlangte und bewahrte. Die Dissertation zeigt, dass die Modalitäten nomadischer Herrschaft ein entscheidender Faktor für diesen Prozess waren und dass die lokalen Eliten von Tabriz ihn in unterschiedlichen Rollen aktiv mitgestalteten.  The dissertation examines the late medieval history of Tabriz, a city in north-western Iran. It traces the process in which Tabriz acquired and preserved a special significance for Persianate political culture between the late sixth/twelfth and the early tenth/sixteenth centuries. The dissertation shows that the modalities of nomadic rule were a decisive factor for that process and that the local elites of Tabriz actively participated in shaping it.
