The present text has the purpose of analyzing the discourse about the Brazilian language, of national use, when confronted with the colonizing, institutionalized language, the Portuguese of Portugal, in the popular song, through texts cut of songs that marked the discussion in 1933 And in 1984. In the popular song, the discussion that evidences the discourses on the Brazilian language was inaugurated by Noel Rosa, in "Não tem tradução", and later retaken by Caetano Veloso in "Língua". By the analysis of the discourse, we sought to understand how language manifests itself and produces meanings, concluding that the popular musician, in the world of song, dealt with the discussion about the Brazilian language.
