Riparian vegetation plays an important role in protecting natural resources and conserving biodiversity. However, the area occupied by it has decreased in the last decades due to the anthropogenic activities. This analyzes the loss of plant diversity in riparian zones with the construction of large hydroelectric projects in cascade in the Cerrado Domain. The research was carried out from the licensing studies of four hydroelectric power plants (São Salvador, Peixe Angical, Lajeado and Estreito) built along the Tocantins River between 2001 and 2010. The data collection was realized in official documents (Studies and Environmental Impact Report of Hydroelectric Power Plants).The analyzes were performed based on the frequency of occurrence of the species obtained for each plant, and Jaccard Similarity Index. The results showed that the changes resulting from the construction of the cascade plants have negative effects on the plant diversity of Cerrado in the Tocantins River Basin. The changes resulting from the construction of cascade plants have negative effects on the diversity of Cerrado plants in the Tocantins river basin, which is in imminent risk of loss from the hydroelectric plan for the basin and other ongoing projects for land use.
