V letech 2006 a 2007 byly na jedne lokalitě v picninařske výrobni oblasti pěstovany stare odrůdy jecmene za stejných podminek jako soucasne odrůdy. Větsina starých odrůd metala až o 5 dni dřive než odrůdy soucasne a take plne zralosti dosahly stare odrůdy dřive. Soucasne odrůdy měly vyssi pocet klasů na m2 a přibližně o 2 t/ha vyssi výnos zrna. Stare odrůdy byly v průměru o 25-30 cm vyssi. Soucasne odrůdy projevily vyssi odolnost vůci polehani, výrazně vyssi odolnost vůci padli travnimu a castecně tež vůci rzi jecne. V připadě hněde skvrnitosti výrazne rozdily mezi starými a soucasnými odrůdami nebyly. Odolnost proti rhynchosporiove skvrnitosti byla u starých i soucasných odrůd přibližně stejna. HTZ byla u nových odrůd mirně vyssi než u starých odrůd.
