Archaeological research carried out1 in 2013 in the Church of St. Nicholas in Gniew definitely broadened the knowledge of historians, art historians, and archaeologists of the material culture of the inhabitants of Royal Prussia. Much historical material was discovered in the church and the graveyard, including fragments of ceramic and glass dishes, textiles, archaeological wood, and metal artefacts, mostly represented by nails and devotional items (Grupa, Drążkowska 2014; Grupa et al. 2014a; Grupa 2015; 2016; Grupa et al. 2015; 2016a; 2016b; Grupa, Warecka 2018; Michalik 2018a; 2018b). The researchers managed to identify, to a large extent, outlines of grave pits and, in some cases, to excavate remains of wooden coffins.
