The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential use of the wood of the hybrid Pinus elliottii var. elliottii x Pinus caribaea var. hondurensis for the production of OSB panels. For the study we used trees of Pinus elliottii var. elliottii x Pinus caribaea var. hondurensis (PECH) and Pinus taeda L. (PT). The experiment consisted of 8 treatments arranged in a factorial design, with the assessment of the effects of two pressing cycles (conventional laboratory cycle and modified cycle with pressure relief in steps) and four PECH and PT wood particle mixture proportions (unmixed; 75% PECH and 25% PT, 50% PECH and 50% PT). Increasing the PECH wood particle proportion in the manufacture of OSB resulted in a tendency to reduce the values of apparent density and the mechanical properties of the panels MOR parallel and MOE parallel and perpendicular. Dimensional stability was negatively influenced with modified pressing cycle and the use of PECH in different proportions, resulting in a tendency towards increase of the water absorption and thickness swelling values. Despite these trends, OSB manufactured from PECH wood particles in the 50% proportion, showed the highest potential for use of the hybrid wood.
