The study of the modified Undeland snubber with energy regeneration applied to the threelevel Neutral Point Clamped (NPC) inverter is presented in this paper. A Buck-boost QSC (Quasi-Square wave Converter) ZVS (Zero Voltage Switching) converter is employed to regenerate the energy from the snubber’s clamping capacitor back to the DC bus. This converter has a single switch and operates at fixed duty cycle. Topological states, theoretical waveforms and design methodology are presented. Experimental results of a 1.5 kVA prototype are shown, validating the proposed structure.
