The article presents a design method and the tests results of the multiresonant ballast prototype developed for feeding one T5 28W model fluorescent lamp (LF). The particularity of the LF requires that during the preheating phase the lamp rms voltage does not exceed 240 V and that after the ignition the filaments do not receive any additional energy. The main idea of the proposed multiresonant ballast is the employment of a second resonant circuit to power the LF filaments in the voltage mode. Although this proposal was made some years ago, the design method has not been satisfactorily described in the literature. The main contribution of this paper is the description of a practical method for multiresonant ballasts design that do not use an additional power switch for the LF filaments heating circuit.
