This research aims to analyze the student-environment relationship, to identify the school space appropriation process; investigate students’ perceptions regarding the environment of the room and free spaces. The method used was the case study and the data collection techniques through semi-structured interviews with primary school children from 6 to 11 years old, and photography. The students were invited to photograph their preferred location and later to construct a narrative about images produced by them. The data were analyzed having as instruments of analysis key concepts of the theoretical framework, both for the speech of the interviewed children and for the analysis of the photographs. The results showed that children appropriets more of the school’s open spaces such as a playground, sports court and cafeteria. It was also noted that school is an important reference in the life of children because they feel protecte and especially because they make friends. It should be noted that the majority of children addressed in the research are in a situation of social vulnerability. The school environment would then be the positive environment an aggregating reference of affection and friendship which contributes greatly to the process of identity construction.
