The objective of the research is to elaborate compost with household waste as an alternative for fertility in urban organic gardens. The study was carried out at the Escuela Superior Politécnica de Chimborazo, Sede Orellana, Ecuador; with the participation of the students of the career of Agronomy, Environmental Engineering and Zootechnics. The materials used were household waste such as eggshells, remains of vegetables and fruits, waste of animal origin, among others. The research was based on a quantitative explanatory approach with an experimental method and design, because some samples were taken and analyzed experimentally in a laboratory. According to the results, the objective of the research was fulfilled; however, it is convenient to improve the humidity composting parameters; this means that you must regulate the humidity, either by supplying water to the material or by adding fresh material with higher water content. Keywords: Compost, household waste, fertility, organic gardens, eggshells, other vegetables. Resumen La investigación tiene como objetivo elaborar el compost con residuos del hogar como una alternativa de fertilidad en los huertos orgánicos urbanos, el estudio se realizó en la Escuela Superior Politécnica de Chimborazo, Sede Orellana, Ecuador; con la participación de los estudiantes de la carrera de Agronomía, Ingeniería Ambiental y Zootécnica. Los materiales utilizados fueron residuos del hogar como cáscaras de huevo, restos de verduras y frutas, residuos de origen animal entre otros. La investigación se basó en un enfoque cuantitativo de tipo explicativa con método y diseño experimental, porque se tomaron algunas muestras que fueron analizadas en un laboratorio experimentalmente. De acuerdo a los resultados, se cumplió con el objetivo de la investigación; sin embargo, es conveniente mejorar los parámetros de compostaje de la humedad; esto significa que debe regular la humedad, ya sea proporcionando agua al material o añadiendo material fresco con mayor contenido de agua.  Palabras Clave: Compost, residuos del hogar, fertilidad, huertos orgánicos, cascaras de huevo, resto de verduras.
