The article is of an overview nature. The article deals with the problem of labor as one of the most important components of the life of society. The purpose of the study: the study and generalization of questions on the topic of work. Objectives of the study: to identify the – 26 – Тенденции развития науки и образования main subject of labor activity; to highlight the functions of labor as an institutionalized means of reproduction; to present current trends concerning the orientation of the individual in labor relations. In the course of the study, we used the following theoretical methods: analysis, induction, abstraction. A detailed definition of the term «labor» is given. Both physical and social aspects of labor are highlighted. The place of man in the system of labor relations is revealed. The factors influencing the level of efficiency of the individual are considered.
