In the very first studies of the artistic features of folklore, comparisons served as examples for demonstrating the imagery, expressiveness, and colorful language of folk poetry. The specificity of the figurative system of language is most clearly revealed in comparisons, in which nationally and culturally determined features of the text, reflected in the figurative thinking of this human collective, are clearly visible. In the article, among the many artistic figurative means used in the heroic Mansi epic, we will consider figurative comparison, since it is a necessary tool for describing ideas about the epic hero, we will try to identify a number of functions of figurative comparison. Comparison contributes to the imaginative description of a variety of objects and their signs, qualities. It is established that the comparisons used in epic texts realize text-forming and figurative functions.
