The article considers the eschatological meanings of the novel “The old world land­ owners” by N. Gogol within the combined sentimental and mythological models of the world. In the common semantic context of “Mirgorod” the idyll is born from the crash of the magic­ personified earth, pictured in “Viy”. And the death of the idyll happens because the magic earth stays in the people’s mind as the source of the fatal call.
