This article contains the results of the analisis of educational standards requirements (Federal State Educational Standard for Higher Education and Moscow State University Educational Standard) on speciality of “Linguistics” (bachelor degree) concerning the requirements for phonetic skills in verbal communication.The emphasized in the educational standards significance of ‘effective verbal’ communication justifies the increased importance of teaching phonetics of a foreign language as the basic ‘tool’ of forming university students’ phonetically correct speech at present.
