To increase the alternatives to organic or conventional producers, the use of ethanolic extract of propolis in the control of plant diseases has been proposed. The objective of this study was to evaluate the foliar application of ethanolic extract of propolis in rust control (Puccinia polissora Underw.) in maize crop (Zea mays L.) in Várzea Grande, MT. An experiment was conducted in the experimental field of UNIVAG Centro Universitário de Várzea Grande, MT. The period of development of the study was from January to May of 2017 with the R & G Selegrãos maize variety. The experimental design was a randomized complete block (DBC), with 4 replicates. Five concentrations of ethanolic propolis extract (0, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10%) were used based on a predetermined solution of 10% crude propolis type. The treatment was carried out when the plants were in grain filling. The disease was evaluated at 11 days before application and at 06, 13 and 20 days after application. The vegetative characteristics of the plants were evaluated on the same dates, using vigor notes. According to the results obtained, the evaluations of vigor and severity notes of rust showed responses regarding the increase of the concentration of extract ethanolic of propolis in the maize crop. The best strength notes occurred when using a dose of 10% of product concentration, with values around 3.6 to 4.2. The best doses of rust control occurred at 8 and 10% of the extract, reducing the severity of the disease by half, when compared to the control without application of the product. No phytotoxicity problems were observed in plants where different concentrations of the product were used.
