St Mary’s Basilica’s treasury boasts a portable coral altar dated to the middle of the 17 th century, a gift from Maria Josepha, the wife of King Augustus III. The altar is the work of one of the Sicilian workshops (perhaps in Trapani). Embraced in a gilded structure and decorated with enamel and corals, in the centre it encloses the figure of the Blessed Virgin Mary standing on the crescent moon in a radial coral glory, surrounded by Marian symbols. On the other side, there is an engraved figure of an angel playing the violin . 1
