The tree tomato (Solanum betaceum) is a fruit that has its origin in the Andean region; it has the qualities necessary to make it an export product with economic relevance. The main objective of this research was to standardize a protocol for protoplast isolation from tree tomato leaves, and to obtain viable plants form these protoplasts. The protocol of Reinert et al (1982) with some modifications, allowed us to obtain protoplast isolation with an average of 4, 21 x 105 protoplasts per ml.
