A review of agent-based and multi-agent socio-ecological-economic models developed by foreign researchers for the purpose oftestingvariablestrategiesforsustainable development is presented. On the example of foreign experience, the efficiency of using the agent method of simulation for the economic and administrative mechanisms for implementing the concept of sustainable regional development and forecasting the social, economic and environmental consequences of environmental policy has been proved. The architecture of decision support systems built with the use of agent technologies are discussed, which are an effective modern tool for developing and testing strategies for sustainable development of areas, including urban and rural, situated in the special climatic zones, environmentally vulnerable, having intensive anthropogenic impact and scarcity of natural resources, as well as environmental policy strategies that support the transition to green technologies. The advantages of the agent approach for applying an integrated and interdisciplinary approach in the aspect of simulation complex relationships and interactions of components of socio-ecological-economic systems are shown.
