Este articulo es una investigacion primaria sobre un episodio de movilizacion, huelga general y violencia sucedido en una localidad madrilena en marzo de 1936 y que tuvo una repercusion notable en la politica nacional. El objetivo principal consiste en analizar en profundidad un caso concreto de violencia politica para demostrar la importancia de contextualizar adecuadamente las estadisticas hasta ahora disponibles. Se persigue complementar esas estadisticas y contribuir a un mejor conocimiento y estudio de los conflictos locales durante los meses posteriores a la victoria del Frente Popular. De forma mas especifica, se pretende, primero, conocer las caracteristicas particulares de la interaccion entre autoridades locales y nacionales durante uno de estos sucesos; segundo, mejorar el conocimiento cientifico del papel desempenado por las policias en esos contextos; y tercero, ilustrar la importancia que puede tener un analisis mas exhaustivo de los episodios de violencia a partir de fuentes primarias. PALABRAS CLAVE: Espana, Segunda Republica, democracia, Frente Popular, violencia politica. ABSTRACT This paper is a primary research into political violence during the Spanish Second Republic. It addresses a very specific episode of violence that occurred on March 1936 in a small town near Madrid. This had a significant impact upon domestic politics, as was shown by the Government’s reaction. The main purpose is to analyze in greater depth a specific instance of violence so as to demonstrate the importance of appropriately contextualizing previously available data. A specific objective is to complement these statistics and contribute towards improved knowledge and study of local conflicts during the months following the Popular Front’s victory. More specifically, the aim is firstly to discover the particular characteristics of the interaction between local and national authorities during one of these incidents; secondly, to improve scientific knowledge of the role played by the police in these contexts; and finally, to illustrate the importance of a more comprehensive analysis of episodes of violence using primary sources.
