EnglishThis paper aimed to analyze the construction of the Brazilian State by Manoel Bomfim’s works of (1868 - 1932), a unique thinker who greatly contributed to the understanding of the country’s issues. We propose to identify the historical development of the State in Brazil, by going through the colonial, imperial and republican periods, in other words, when the sense of the state was forged. It was highlighted in his works the influence that was set the concept of colonialism and its permanence in the economic, political and social structures in the Brazilian history, which are noticeable up to the present day, formulating an authoritarian culture of power and society. portuguesEste artigo teve como objetivo analisar a construcao do Estado brasileiro pelas obras de Manoel Bomfim (1868 – 1932), pensador impar e pouco estudado pela academia, mas que muito contribuiu para o entendimento das mazelas do pais. Propomos identificar o desenvolvimento historico do Estado no Brasil, perpassando os periodos colonial, imperial e republicano, ou seja, quando se forjou o sentido do Estado. Ficou muito evidenciado em suas obras o peso que se configurou o conceito de colonialismo e sua permanencia nas estruturas economicas, politicas e sociais na historia brasileira, perceptiveis ate os dias atuais, formulando uma cultura autoritaria de poder e sociedade.
