The objective of this research was to know the duration of exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) in a Health Unit (U.S.) in Curitiba, but also check the profile of nursing mothers and whether or not reasons may be leading to early weaning. This was a qualitative and quantitative work, retrospective with basement on literature, and articles published in electronic journals in the last five years. Developed a field research, through analysis of women living in the area covered by the Health Unit, through the survey of Live Birth Certificates (NIDs), received from mothers who had children from January to March 2009 with a total of 31 NIDs. The study was conducted through an interview, applied in a questionnaire containing eight questions. The results showed that 52% of respondents had completed high school, the duration of EBF averaged four months and twenty seted, yet each has introduced other foods between four and six months of age is considered as one of the main reasons the fact 80% of participants to work outside the home.
