One in three Spanish municipalities has lost more than 25% of its population since the beginning of the 21st century, despite the fact that Spain has increased its population by 15.37% since 2000 (INE). The Northwest region with 2,386.9 km2 occupies approximately one fifth of the Autonomous Community of Murcia although only 4.76% live there; It is composed of five municipalities, two of them large in area: Moratalla (954 km2) and Caravaca (858 m2); two medium: Cehegín (299 km2) and Calasparra (185 km2); and a small one: Bullas (82 km2). Traditionally its economy has been based on forest use, cereal cultivation and orchard at the bottom of the valleys where small non-permanent streams of water appear. In relation to the regional group, the region of NO presents differentiated demographic data both in the number of inhabitants per km2 (56.7) and in the regional distribution: Bullas (140.5), Calasparra (55), Caravaca (29.9), Cehegín (50.2) and Moratalla (8.3) and falls above the regional average located at 130.7 inhabitants / km2 or national, 92.3 inhabitants / km2. This paper analyzes demographic trends, observing how this Region shows symptoms of increasing aging, as well as a progressive loss of population that, if not cut off, will cause serious socio-economic damage in territorial planning and negative actions aimed at consolidating the Development Objectives Sustainable, where the municipal head may maintain or lose a slight number of population while rural spaces and nuclei of smaller entity will be exposed to the risk of being abandoned. The urgent implementation of plans for agricultural, livestock, industrial and tourism dynamization is suggested; also a policy of aid that loyalty the settlement of the young population, prone by current consumption habits to move to the cities, mainly to the capital of Murcia and the metropolitan area.
