The main objective of the article is to analyze the impacts of the change of government in 2012 in Chiapas on the state policy for the elderly. In 2007, the AMANECER Program for older people was implemented and in 2012 Manuel Velasco Cuello won elections in the State of Chiapas. The methodology lies in the qualitative analysis based on surveys and interviews with adults and with officials from various government offices. The main finding is that after 2012 elections there is no continuity in the management of the program. The reproduction of the power of “big families” of the local elite is observed.
