Immune checkpoint inhibitors have been among the most successful cancer therapies in recent years, but are limited by the fact that they are effective in certain cancers but not others. T-cell recognition of cancer neoantigens is essential for effective immune-checkpoint blockade therapy, and this has led to an interest in developing personalized tumor neoantigen vaccines. Neoantigens are cancer-specific peptides that are delivered to patients using cell-, protein-, or nucleic acid-based platforms, to prime the immune system to attack the tumour.
