The industrial monument „Königshütte“ in Bad Lauterberg offers an enormous potential for tourism. In 2010 the Planning Agency Petri & Tiemann Ltd., Bremen (Planungsbüro Petri & Tiemann GmbH, Bremen) submitted a first draft conception for the development of a science museum. By using the historical structures, an edutainment-conception should enable the visitors to get acquainted with the production chain of casting, with the components of ore winning, energy generation from water and coal, moulding and melting. Furthermore, the other existing features on the compound like the museum „Historic Machine Factory Königshütte” („Historische Maschinenfabrik Königshütte”), the „Ironworks Museum of the South Harz Mountains” („Südharzer Eisenhüttenmuseum“) and the „Mill” („Mühle“) as one of the oldest remaining industrial mills in Germany should be integrated into the planning as well for restoring and preserving purposes as for the presentation to visitors. Moreover, efforts have to be made to raise public awareness to the fact, that the industrial monument Königshütte is one of the outstanding objects of the economic and social history of the LeineHarz-Region.
