R e sumo : O presente trabalho perfaz um exercicio de traducao da definicao dos afetos ( path e ), tal como formulada por Aristoteles na Retorica , para outros campos da experiencia humana, em particular, a tragedia Rei Lear , de Shakespeare, e a teoria psicanalitica (Freud e Lacan). Nesse percurso, elegemos a tragedia como locus privilegiado da discussao, na qual propomos possiveis leituras para a problematica dos afetos, no campo conceitual das pulsoes, e na dimensao da mimese, da catarse e da sublimacao. Como e proprio a todo processo de transposicao de uma ideia para outras linguagens e idiomas, esse exercicio marca-se pela contaminacao mutua dos campos de conhecimento postos em dialogo. Abstract: The present paper aims at carrying out an exercise in translation of the Aristotelian notion of affects ( path e ) as developed in the Rhetoric , into other fields of the human experience. In particular, our analysis will focus on Shakespeare’s King Lear and on psychoanalytic theory (Freud and Lacan) in order to bring to the fore possible readings of the question of the affects, within the framework of the notions of mimesis , catharsis and sublimation. As characteristic of every process of transposition of a particular idea to (an) other language(s), this exercise bears marks of the mutual contamination that the fields of knowledge in question carry into the other.
