It is difficult to overestimate the ethical and psychological aspect of personalized medicine, since it is this branch of medicine that involves the most intimate and personal communication with the patient. It is well known that many symptoms that make people suffer and seek the help of a specialist (such as a surgeon) are, in fact, psychosomatic. To get rid of these symptoms, it is often not enough to prescribe medication and treatment. Doctors also need to study the circumstances of their patients’ life, and to help their patients focus on how their health is linked to their outlook or lifestyle.  In many cases, it is the outlook that appears to be both the root cause of many problems and the obstacle in removing the symptom. An individual may possess certain beliefs which by their very nature restrain the organism’s attempts at self-regulation and harmonization. In neuro-linguistic programming these are known as "limiting beliefs". To neutralize them, practical psychology has developed special techniques. Thus, a transition to personalized medicine requires far more than financial means and well-trained personnel – a change must occur in the consciousness of the patient.
