AB ÜLKELERİNDE YÜKSELEN POPÜLİZM, BREXIT VE AB NİN GELECEĞİ

The European integration process, which began in 1951 with the European Coal and Steel Community, became a centre of attraction by developing the welfare state in the member states. However, the globalisation process followed by the economic crises in the member countries, unemployment and influx of immigrants allowed the rise of far-right and populist political parties and movements. This increased the number of people who opposed the European Union (EU) or some of its policies. Thus, in the United Kingdom on 23 June 2016, the majority of voters in the Brexit referendum voted to leave the European Union. However, the Brexit Treaty was not accepted by the United Kingdom Parliament and Brexit could not be realized yet. Thus the UK has faced the biggest crisis since its accession to the EU. We are now wondering the impact of Brexit on the European Union if it will happen. Will the European Union move towards politically more integrated organisation (kind of federal united Europe) or rather an economic union? Or will the EU go through a disintegration process, as some claim? This study aims to analyse the rising of populism in the European Union countries and the Brexit process and the future of the EU.
