The Ottoman period was narrated generally with negative examples throughout all of Balkan Literatures. There were often narrations in most of the literary genres that would lead to prejudices against the Turks and Muslims for readers. However, although they were few in number, some Balkan writers wrote positive literary works about the Turks and Islam. Unlike many other Serbian men of letters, Branislav Nusic narrated the Turks that he saw in person and lived together, without prejudices. He conveyed warm, sincere and intimate behaviours, beliefs, neighbour relations, traditions and habits in a very hearty and colourful style. While we give Nusic as an example on Serbian Literature, we can mention Jordan Jovkov within Bulgarian Literature. Jovkov, who was one of the most significant creators of New Bulgarian Literature, narrated the Turks in his stories with unprejudiced expressions as a person who knew them well. He tried to reflect Turkish characters in his stories in the way that he knew and recognized, by exhibiting a realistic attitude with no effect of prejudice or nationalistic propaganda disseminated in his country.
