Therapeutic toys can promote psychophysiological well-being of hospitalized children. They are used as a feature to relieve anxiety and promote patients’ relaxation and comfort. They also establish a better interaction and trust between children, families, and professionals. Objective: The aim of the present study is to understand the nurses’ point of view regarding the benefits and difficulties of using therapeutic toys in child hospitalization. Patients and Methods: We carried out a descriptive exploratory study with a qualitative approach performed at a Pediatric Hospital from August to September 2014. The study sample consisted of ten clinical nurses who answered the questionnaire prepared by the researcher. Data analysis was based on thematic analysis. Results: Nurses highlighted the effects of therapeutic toys as a positive device care during child hospitalization, once they provide better interpersonal relationship between the child/ family and the professional. Toys also facilitate assistance and promote child’s understanding in relation to procedures they undergo during hospitalization. Conclusion: The use of therapeutic toys promotes the individualization of care and helps the child to understand and face the hospitalization process. Nurses and patients recognize the benefits of this usage. Therefore, this usage should be encouraged, so that the difficulties do not overlap during the care process. We considered that the results of the present study would raise awareness among nurses regarding the applicability of therapeutic toys as an intervention device in coping behavior in child hospitalization.
