Tensile testing consists of subjecting the specimen to an effort that tends to elongate it until rupture, the hardness test consists of a small print on the surface of the part, the chemical analysis determines properties of the steel, while the metallographic analysis is performed through microscopes to determine the morphology and structure of the metal. The agricultural tractor is the power source, contributes to the development of agricultural production systems. The choice of the Sergipano High Sertão region was direct, due to the increase of the economy, allied to the presence of agricultural tractors and due to the increase of the maintenance on the stems of the steering wheels. This study aims to characterize a metallic material without technical specifications of the manufacturer, through mechanical tests and metallographic analysis. In order to carry out this study, the ASTM E8M standard was followed by five test specimens, three sections of the steering cylinder rod, tensile testing machine, microdurometer, microscope and spectrometer. After the tests and metallographic analysis, it is concluded that the steel making rod is AISI 1050.
