The exponential growth of the population, directly linked to the increase in the land occupation rate, has caused, especially in the last decade, several clashes and debates regarding the problems related to urban drainage. The swelling of urban infrastructure has led to an increase in impermeable zones, preventing percolation and infiltration of water into the soil. The use of permeable concrete in pavements is one of the most effective solutions for the management of rainwater or water accumulated on the surface. Aiming at reducing overloads in conventional drainage systems, the permeable concrete, due to its unique Revista Multidisciplinar do Nordeste Mineiro, v1. 2020/01 ISSN 2178-6925 2 porosity characteristics, allows the water flow to occur in an efficient and controlled manner, minimizing the risk of floodings and overflows. This article aims, through bibliographic research, to present the permeable concrete as a viable solution to the problems arising from the lack of planning and the failure to implement adequate drainage systems in large urban areas.
