Background: Mechanical stresses in electric motor teeth and their deformation by electromagnetic forces should not exceed admissible values. The existing methods determine tooth mechanical stresses and deformations under sinusoidal supply voltage. But modern electrical units often use frequency control systems with non-sinusoidal voltage supply from frequency converters, with higher voltage time harmonics causing an additional range of electromagnetic forces in the electric motor. This makes it urgent to evaluate the impact of supply voltage non-sinusoidality on tooth buckling stresses in asynchronous engines. Materials and methods: The study employed the developed simulation model of asynchronous variable-frequency electric drive in the Simulink environment of the Matlab package, the method of voltage curve decomposition into time harmonics, methods of current spectral analysis and finite element simulation of electromagnetic fields, forces and bending moments, method of determining the total mechanical stress.  «Вестник ИГЭУ» Вып. 1 2017 г. Ленина» 34 Results: A technique has been developed for evaluation of supply voltage nonsinusoidality effect on asynchronous drive tooth buckling stress taking into account the nonsinusoidality form, including pulse-width modulation, stator and rotor core serration, electromagnetic engine condition, range of time and space harmonics of electromagnetic forces. Stator tooth buckling stresses of asynchronous engines have been evaluated for sinusoidal form of supply voltage and supply from voltage pulse-width modulation frequency converter. Conclusions: Supply voltage non-sinusoidality causes a range of voltage time harmonics, an additional range of electromagnetic forces in the electric motor, which changes tooth buckling stresses and deformations. The developed technique allows evaluation of the effect of supply voltage non-sinusoidality on asynchronous engine tooth buckling stresses. Using pulse-width modulation frequency converters to supply asynchronous engines, in comparison with a sinusoidal voltage source, increases the bending moment and stator tooth buckling stress by up to 10 %. Increasing the carrier frequency of pulse-width modulation reduces additional asynchronous engine tooth deformation.
