This paper proposes to research the applicability of sustainability concepts in public agencies, particularly with respect to adherence to sustainable nature of projects that are shod in the arguments of public policy. Through applied research in units of a local authority in the island municipality of Flores / SE / BRAZIL, Baixo São Francisco, was asked for managers (executive) the perception and knowledge of these regarding the adoption of linked projects measures for the inclusion of projects that reduce environmental liabilities and consequently costs for the municipality. The methodology used in this research was the survey data; bibliographical research carried out in books, articles and current legislation as sources for gathering information and for the construction of the theoretical framework. The results of this survey indicate that the majority of public managers surveyed unaware of the importance of sustainability as an ally to local progress. Thus, considering the value of sustainability in public administration as a support in the development process: social, environmental and economic. In view of the effectiveness and applicability in the strategic planning process of public institutions with a view to the involvement of people to obtain short, medium and long-term results.
