Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) is one of the mostpromising candidate technologies for future data transmission network.GMPLS has been developed to control and operate different kinds ofnetwork elements, such as conventional routers, switches, DenseWavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) systems, Add- DropMultiplexors (ADMs), photonic cross-connects (PXCs), optical cross-connects (OXCs), etc. Dynamic provisioning ability of these physicallydiverse devices differs from each other drastically. At the same time,the need for Dynamicly provisioned connections is increasing becauseoptical networks are being deployed in metro areas. As differentapplications have varied requirements in the provisioning performanceof optical networks, it is imperative to define standardized metricsand procedures such that the performance of networks and applicationneeds can be mapped to each other. This document provides a series ofperformance metrics to evaluate the dynamic LSP provisioningperformance in GMPLS networks, specifically the Dynamic LSPsetup/release performance. These metrics can depict the features ofGMPLS networks in LSP dynamic provisioning. They can also be used inoperational networks for carriers to monitor the control planeperformance in realtime.
