From the point of generation of oscillation, a turbocharger is a self-general system. The essential source of oscillations is the rotating set together with bearings. To deal with the subject, the author developed the model of the rotating set. A shaft with rotors is placed in sliding bearings with floating rings. In this model each bearing is modeled including floating ring bearings masses. In addition, rigidity and damping factors of both oil films were taken into account. The motion of the model is examined in two planes: 0XZ and 0YZ. The research shows that for the value of the quotient of angular velocity ω 1 of the journal and angular speed ω 2 of a floating ring bearing: ν = ω 1 / ω 2 ≈ 5 there can be work instabilities in a bearing which are characterized by the unexpected change of the floating ring centre. One of the parameters that have an influence on macro geometry of the bearing is thickness of the floating ring. Also, the mass relates to the floating ring bearing thickness. The aim of the present work is to describe the influence of a floating ring mass on static and dynamic properties of a rotating set.
