For a few years, patients with single sided deafness (SSD) and asymmetric hearing loss (AHL) are candidates for cochlear implantation. The cochlear implantation systems is designed to support sound localisation of patients and to eliminate tinnitus in their deaf ears. The aim of the study was to evaluate binaural hearing outcomes after cochlear implantation in patients with single-sided deafness and asymmetric hearing loss. Material and methods: The subjects of the study included 21 adult patients with single-sided deafness and asymmetric hearing loss, who had been using cochlear implants for at least 14 months. In those patients, binaural hearing effects, i.e. the head shadow effect, the squelch effect and binaural redundancy, were tested with the monosyllabic word identification test developed by Pruszewicz.
