The aim of this study was to determine the effect of long-term flood water stagnation on the volume and degree of insect damage to leaves in oak stands. Analyses were conducted in the Wołów Forest District in 18 stands, including nine with stagnant waters and nine with no flood water stagnation. In order to determine the degree of leaf damage in the stand a new sample collection method was applied, consisting in the collection of leaves from the ground surface in the autumn after they had been shed, instead of the labourand timeconsuming collection of leaves in tree crowns during the vegetation season. The analyses showed no effect of stagnant waters on the number of insect-damaged leaves or on the degree of such damage.
